Here are some notes for your review.
Blogging

What is a blog?
• An online personal journal or diary
• A place to express yourself to the world
• A place to share your thoughts and your passions.
• A personal diary
• A daily pulpit
• A collaborative space
• A political soapbox
• A breaking-news outlet
• A collection of links.
• Your own private thoughts.
• Memos to the world.
• Blog is a short form for the word weblog (web+log) and the two words are used interchangeably.


Your blog is whatever you want it to be.

• There are millions and millions of blogs
• There are no real rules governing blogs
• Entries posted on an ongoing basis.
• Readers can comment, link or email you.

Why blog?
• Because we have something to say and want to make our voices heard
• To connect with others and build communities
• To inform the world of what is happening in our part of the world or in our lives
• To grab the opportunity to reach hundreds or even thousands of people each and every day.

SOME TYPES OF BLOGS
• News
• Photos
• Music
• Video
• Podcast
• Art
• Personal blogs
• Institutional blogs
• Group blogs
• Blog aggregators (e.g. http://www.blogcatalog.com/ and http://www.pinoytopblogs.com

BASIC COMPONENTS OF A BLOG
• Title - The blog's title.
• Date - The date of the most recent post. You will notice that previous posts have been pushed down on the page to fit below the most recent one.
• Post Title - The title of the most recent post.
• Text - The actual text of the most recent post.
• Posting Information - Information telling who wrote that particular post and when it was posted to the blog.
• Comments - An area for readers of the blog to add their comments. This is an option some bloggers use and others avoid.
• Previous Posts - A list of the most recent posts.
• Archives - A link to view the archive section which contains older posts.

• Categories
• Settings: tags, format, etc.
• RSS – (Really simple syndication) is a family of Web feed formats used to publish frequently updated works—such as blog entries, news headlines, audio, and video—in a standardized format. An RSS document (which is called a "feed", "web feed", or "channel") includes full or summarized text, plus metadata such as publishing dates and authorship.

Steps to do:
1: Define Your Niche
• What do you want to say?
• Whom do you want to reach out to? (choose your audience)
• What is your theme?
• What subject matter will you cover?

2: Give your Blog a Name
• Memorable, short, easy to spell and remember
• Choose a URL for your blog
• Check in your prospective host if it’s available.

3. Create Your Blog. You can use
• http://www.blogger.com
• http://www.wordpress.com
• http://multiply.com
• http://www.livejournal.com
• http://www.myspace.com

4. Write your first entries
• Write a Welcome entry explaining your blog and what it is all about
• Write your Profile
• Post your insights
• Select interactive elements – example, polls, link list, etc.

5. Maximize links
• Be conscious of incorporating links within your entries
• Draw up a blog roll – list of Blogs related to your topic, profession or Personal favorites
